Enrique Gil still sees himself as a newbie after two years in showbiz

Young Kapamilya actor Enrique Gil has been in showbiz for two years now. First he had guest stints in Pieta (2008) and I Love Betty La Fea (2009), before being added to the regular cast of George and Cecil (2009) and Rosalka (2010). Today he is a regular performer in the high-rating ABS-CBN Sunday variety show, ASAP XV, as part of The Gigger Boys.
But after two years spent in showbiz, he really still feels like a newcomer in the industry.
"I'm okay. Trying to fit in show business 'cause I've been here for
two years, but I'm not really, fully... Parang there's a feeling that
I'm a newbie," Enrique tells PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an
interview, September 15, at the photo shoot for the STAGES family, at
The Room in Quezon City.
"Every time you do a new show, it just feels like it's your first
time," the 18-year-old actor adds. "I don't know if that's what the
others feel, but for me until now, it's so...
"And then, you do better from before, but it's just a feeling like
you've never done it before, you know? It's parang first feeling lang.
Parang there is a challenge."
He says he only feels like a pro while dancing for ASAP XV.
"After ASAP, ngayon, wala na talagang kaba yung sayaw. Pero
'pag tapings, iba. Pag acting, iba talaga pag eksena, e. Kasi, buong
shot baka ikaw yun, or you have to be so professional," he says.
But instead of feeling down about it, Enrique tries to make his apprehensions produce valuable lessons.
"You learn naman from the actors, di ba?" he says. "It's a learning
process, all the time, each time you do stuff, it's always a learning
process."
NEW SHOW. Enrique proudly reveals that his upcoming
show for ABS-CBN will involve lots of dancing—which is a good thing, he
says, because he expects not to feel as awkward anymore.
"It's a youth-oriented show, like, it's mainly for dancing. It's for
the youth, for everyone to know that no matter what your difference is,
you can still be with other people through dance. It unites you. Kahit
iba-iba yung walks of life, it unites you," he says.
"Makikita niyo sa story. Like ako, hint lang—I'm poor in the show.
It's kinda crazy. I'm in a crew, a group of dancers, and yung iba,
mayaman. Dance unites all kinds of people in all walks of life."
His co-stars will include fellow STAGES talent Sam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, and young talents from Pinoy Big Brother.
Enrique says he's already training for the still-untitled show.
"I still have a lot of work to do for the new show kasi ang daming
sayaw... So, for the new show I get to work out even in work. Kasi
sasayaw nang sasayaw, so pawisan 'yon, so it's a double workout," he
says.
SHOWBIZ ROOTS. Enrique Gil started acting in the
summer of 2008. He was 16 years old then, and boredom led him to enroll
in commercial modeling workshops as well as musical theater workshops
conducted by Trumpets.
Commercial modeling, he claims, was easy; musical theater was not.
"I didn't like theater talaga," he recalls. "I'm not kind of a singer
kasi, so I don't really do theater. I'm more into dancing, or acting.
So more on commercials lang. And then they saw the potential."
As a result, Enrique appeared in a series of commercials. Then
Enrique became part of Star Magic, ABS-CBN's talent arm and the biggest
one hereabouts.

Theater actor Marco Manalac is inching his way to become a solid presence in Philippine showbiz. Marco was the lead actor of Equus, the stage play produced by Repertory Philippines last July.
This October, he will be shooting for a movie about Filipino boy
scouts with Sam Concepcion. Marco and Sam were recently chosen to be the
spokespersons for the Boy Scouts of Philippines. Marco is also one of
the new ambassadors for the World Vision Famine program. He is taking
voice lessons and will soon record his first demo. Marco is also set to
appear in another Star Cinema movie and ABS-CBN's IMORTAL.
"I have some projects lined up. I can't say yet, e. But definitely
I'm gonna get into TV. I really wanna get into films, I think voice
lessons too," Marco told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the
photo shoot of the STAGES Management family on September 15, at The
Room, Quezon City.
PEP asked Marco to reveal what TV station he will be signed up with,
but he chose to keep it a secret. "I am looking forward to work with any
network," he said.
Marco said it's not important if he's a Kapamilya or a Kapuso. What's
important is the acting niche he wants to excel in. Marco said he wants
to be known for "edgy" and "weird" roles.
"I'm going for edgy roles. I mean, I may not be the best-looking guy.
I may not have the best body. But I think, the entertainment business
still needs, you know, that character actor. The one who can play the
weird, who gets the weird, edgy roles, risky roles," he said.
PEP pointed out that these roles are more abundant in indie films. Is Marco going the indie route, too?
"Well, I've been getting offers, and we're still going over
everything. I also want to get into one... I'm planning on venturing
into everything really," he replied.
For now, Marco is hell-bent on preparing to be a star. He goes on a
regular gym schedule to be "more defined." He's also signed up with
several sponsors to take care of his skin, hair, and fashion.
"I want to continually level-up. Nobody can be satisfied. You should always want to improve," he said.

Christian Bautista says being single doesn't mean having a blue Christmas; upholds family love this season
Rose Garcia
"Mahirap lang. kasi sometimes dito ka nagtatrabaho, and then two months sa Jakarta.
"Mahirap din, e."
Every week, nasa iba't ibang bansa siya?
"Hindi naman every week, pero because some of the other countries, e, kumukuha rin ng raket.
"So, mahirap din," ulit niya.
kina Cristine Reyes at Carmen Soo. Alin sa mga ito ang totoo?
"Ano naman kasi, every time na may makakasama akong screen partner, I
do my best to get to know that person," sagot ni Christian.
"Kasi, gusto mong makilala sila and somehow, you wanna learn from them," paliwanag niya.
You try to know them."
Ano naman ang ayaw niya?
"Hindi naman sa ayaw... Yung babae kasi, whether may ayaw ka sa kanya
or gusto mo, kung mahal mo, mamahalin mo yun kahit ayaw mo.
"So, whether may ayaw ka or hindi, kung talagang kayo ang para sa isa't isa, magmamahalan kayo."
Nali-link na sa ibang guys ang mga babaeng na-link sa kanya noon. Hindi ba siya naiinggit dito?
"Oo nga, e, para ngang good luck!
sila."
Kailan naman kaya niya plano mag-settle down?
"Parang gasolina. Kapag lumiyab na 'yan, dire-diretso na 'yan.
"Sa 'yo ko yata nakuha yun. So, yun!" nakangiting sabi nito kay KC.

During her first taping day last Wednesday, Karylle shared her excitement over her new TV project.
“I’m happy that I’m part of the show. I’ve been resting for quite some time. Puro kanta-kanta ang inaatupag ko sa buhay. I’m happy singing, but deep down, I really miss acting. Natutuwa din ako especially dahil ang cute-cute ni Sid (Lucero). Tawag siya nang tawag na sobra siyang excited and I felt really welcome in the show. Kaya lalong nakakagana.”
Karylle says she’s excited to be part of the Kampilya viewers’ daily lives again.
“When I went to the States, I met TFC viewers. I saw how they supported the soaps and how they love the characters they watch everyday. They even have it taped!”
Asked about being teamed up again with former Dahil May Isang Ikaw co-star Sid Lucero, Karylle says, “I’m very excited! When he arrives on the set, ang kulit-kulit niya. He got his guitar and sang for me at once. We’re very very close because we’ve worked together for a long time. We really support each other. I’m groping a bit now because this is nt first taping after a long time.”
She added, “In Dahil May Isang Ikaw, many televiewers thought magkakatuluyan ‘yung character ni Sid na si Red at si Denise. So feeling ko ito ‘yung kadugtong no’n. ‘Yung mga inisip nilang baka mangyayari noon, dito na lang siguro nila abangan kung mangyayari.”
What will the role Tania (Karylle) play in the lives of Nilo (Sid), Troy (Rayver Cruz) and Carmela (Bangs Garcia)? Will she be the key to the reunion of Nilo and Carmela? Will she totally ruin their marriage?

One Way—a Korean pop trio composed of Michael Kim (Chance), Peter Hyun, and Choo Joon Young (Young Sky)—is currently in Manila for a series of mall shows.
The group will jumpstart their Manila engagement later this afternoon, July 30, at the Skydome of SM North Edsa in Quezon City. They will be performing tomorrow, July 31, at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City before concluding their tour on Sunday, August 1, at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Christian and the members of One Way became friends after both parties collaborated in the song “Wrong Number.” The tune is included in the Philippine edition of One Way’s album titled One Way Street.
One Way has been very open to collaborating with other artists. The group enjoys a close relationship with Super Junior—arguably the biggest and most popular export of the Korean pop group industry.
“We are close friends and we’re the same age with them. We get along well and our friendship started a few years ago. Musically, we’ve been in the studio a couple of times and a lot of collaborations are taking place,” revealed Chance.
HEARING CHRISTIAN. “Before coming to the Philippines, we got a list of Filipino artists and we were checking them out through YouTube and other music websites. We come across one of Christian’s music and we liked it—the genre and the musicianship. It really speaks a lot about his music and we were just impressed by that. We decided to get in touch with him,” said Chance.
The 28-year-old Filipino balladeer himself is no stranger to working and collaborating with foreign artists. Christian is in fact popular in neighboring Asian countries, particularly in Indonesia.
He became the only Filipino to ever appear in the Indonesian television program titled Dahsat, where he performed “Please Be Careful With My Heart” (originally popularized by Jose Mari Chan and Regine Velasquez) together with Indonesian singer Bunga Citra Lestari.
